TRAIN TICKET POLICY
Pre-Order Ticket Policy
Sri Lanka Railways allows reservations up to 30 days prior to departure. For travel dates beyond this window, we offer Pre-Order Tickets under the following conditions:
- Your booking remains in pre-order (pending) status until tickets are officially issued within 30 days of departure.
- Seat and class preferences are subject to availability at the time of ticket issuance.
- If your preferred option is not available, alternatives will be offered via email/phone.
- If we are unable to secure a ticket, you will receive a refund or alternative options.
- E-tickets will be sent via email once confirmed and can be used directly for boarding.
Confirmed & Issued Ticket Policy
Once tickets have been confirmed and issued, and the e-ticket has been delivered via email, no cancellations, refunds, or changes are permitted under any circumstances.
Important Guidelines
Prior to making a reservation through the Service, passengers are strongly advised to carefully review and comply with the following:
- Select the correct train and convenient travel date(s) for both outbound and return journeys.
- Understand the applicable fares in detail before confirming your booking.
- A maximum of 5 seats may be reserved at once.
- Standard customer verification and terms & conditions apply.
- NIC numbers of each passenger (except dependents) must be provided.
- E-tickets and travel details will be sent via email for online reservations.
- A reservation is guaranteed only after full payment is received by Sri Lanka Railways.
- Tickets are valid only for the specified train(s); travel on other services with these tickets is strictly prohibited.
- All tickets remain the property of Sri Lanka Railways, are non-transferable, and must be handed over upon completing your journey.
Liability Clause
Sri Lanka Railways (SLR) shall not be held liable for:
- Loss, theft, or damage of personal belongings.
- Personal injury, accident, illness, or death during travel.
- Delays, interruptions, or cancellations caused by circumstances beyond its control (including natural disasters and force majeure events).
SLR and its mTicketing Service Provider shall not be responsible for direct, indirect, or consequential damages, including fraudulent use of debit/credit cards. Liability is excluded and limited to the fullest extent permitted by law. Passengers agree to indemnify and hold harmless SLR and its providers from any claims or liabilities arising from the use of the service.
Child Policy
- Children aged 3 and below travel free when sharing a seat with a parent (1 child per adult).
- Additional seats for children must be booked at the standard adult fare.
- Children aged 3 and above are charged full adult fares.
- SLR does not provide special meals for children.
- Parents/guardians must supervise children at all times to avoid inconvenience to other passengers.
Dangerous Goods
Passengers are prohibited from carrying firearms, flammable substances, fireworks, toxic or poisonous materials, and other dangerous goods.
Pets
No pets are permitted onboard Sri Lanka Railways services.
Luggage Policy
Each passenger may bring luggage free of charge within the following limits:
- First Class: up to 40 kg
- Second Class: up to 35 kg
- Third Class: up to 25 kg
Luggage must be stored in designated luggage cabins subject to availability. Heavy or oversized luggage is strictly prohibited. Passengers are strongly advised to lock their belongings. SLR is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
General Terms
- Sri Lanka Railways reserves the right to amend these terms at any time. Passengers are responsible for reviewing the latest version at srilanka-railways.com.
- SLR may suspend or terminate the Service at any time without prior notice.
- Passengers must provide booking reference and valid NIC or passport to collect tickets.
